"The facade made it clear that Prime Roast was an overbearing cafe which seeks to orchestrate your experience in the manner of Slowdown Cafe; determining that we would not take a coffee at the establishment, we stepped inside to at least verify whether they actually roast coffee as their sign suggests, which they do."

If you have a problem with an establishment that knows your "usual" after the third time you order (double Americano for me, thanks), gets you in and out quickly if you're in a hurry and slowly if you're not, provides space to work and space to relax, charges no more than anywhere else in town *and* has tasty ethical coffee served with care... I honestly don't know why you'd bother reviewing a cafe in the first place. Prime Roast and Brewbakers, a block from each other? It's an embarrassment of riches. They're both great. You'd know that if you'd actually deigned to try both.

"Before Brewbaker’s I assumed in my ignorance that coffee had to be bad..."

I guess that says it all. If I'm paying more than $1 for a cup, it had better be at least comparable to the brew I press at home. If you don't *like* coffee, don't drink coffee... and please don't malign quality cafes because you don't like their signage.

The bathroom is sweltering because the whole building is on the same old heating system, either all the heat is on or all the heat is off. Twice a year, at the beginning of spring/summer and the end of summer/beginning of fall, when it's cold at night (but warmish during the day), the boiler kicks on and doesn't shut off.

I've been in that basement. If you think the bathroom is hot, you would probably evaporate in the basement! It's almost as if you can SEE the heat.
